An architectural model project has three schedule components:
- Pre-production: Confirming the model boundary, scale, content, materials, source files, presentation features and delivery requirements.
- Internal production: Digital preparation, fabrication, assembly, finishing, quality control and final photography.
- Review and delivery: Client review, revisions, final authorization, packing, shipping and any required installation.
Carve Model’s 14–21-day standard applies to internal production. Time spent waiting for client comments, revised information, material approvals or final authorization is excluded.
Production begins after the required information is available and the project scope has been approved.

What Is Included in Internal Production?
Internal production may include preparing CAD or BIM files, dividing the model into fabrication components, 3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, assembly, painting, landscaping, lighting integration, finishing, quality control and final photography.
The exact combination depends on the model’s scale, materials, level of detail and intended presentation. Milestone photographs and approval items are shared through the Carve Studio Portal when required.

What Can Extend the Production Schedule?
Several factors can increase the time required to produce an architectural model:
- Incomplete or changing information: Missing drawings, unfinished landscape design or late architectural revisions may require components to be redesigned.
- CAD and BIM preparation: Revit, Rhino and other 3D files may contain unnecessary internal elements or geometry that must be simplified before fabrication.
- Model size and detail: Large dimensions, complex façades, detailed interiors and extensive landscaping require additional production and finishing.
- Lighting and functional features: LEDs, removable sections, moving components and interactive controls require coordination, integration and testing.
- Samples and approvals: Custom materials, colors and finishes may require physical samples or mockups before production continues.
- Delivery requirements: Sectional construction, custom crates, oversized freight and on-site installation must be coordinated before fabrication.
Design changes requested after fabrication begins can have the greatest effect because completed components may need to be modified or remade.
How to Keep an Architectural Model Project on Schedule
Provide the latest available drawings or 3D files, confirm the approximate model dimensions and identify the required presentation features as early as possible.
If the model is needed for a planning hearing, investor presentation, sales-gallery opening, exhibition or another fixed event, communicate that date at the beginning. Carve Model can then work backward to establish the production, review and delivery milestones.
